Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community Visits Singapore for Consultations in Preparation for Singapore’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2027

The Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community (DSG APSC), H.E. Dato’ Astanah Abdul Aziz, undertook a consultative visit to Singapore on 7–8 October 2026 in preparation for Singapore’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2027.

During the visit, DSG Dato’ Astanah held consultations with Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Defence on Singapore’s priorities and proposed deliverables under the APSC Pillar. The discussions covered, among others, cooperation in addressing transnational crime, border management and immigration, illicit drugs, defence and security cooperation, ASEAN’s external relations, as well as preparations and coordination between Singapore and the ASEAN Secretariat ahead of the Chairmanship. The ASEAN Secretariat reaffirmed its readiness to support Singapore in the lead-up to and throughout its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2027.

The visit also included luncheons hosted by H.E. Albert Chua, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Singapore’s ASEAN SOM Leader, together with H.E. Foo Chi Hsia, Second Permanent Secretary (Development), Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as by Mr. Harry Goh, Director-General of ASEAN-Singapore, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
