The Deputy Secretary General for ASEAN Economic Community, Satvinder Singh, welcomed Professor Kaoru Takara, President of Japan’s National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), during a courtesy call on 3 February 2026 at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.
The Meeting highlighted ASEAN–Japan cooperation in advancing science, technology and innovation, particularly in disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, and support for initiatives under COSTI and the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science, Technology and Innovation (APASTI) 2026–2035. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional collaboration, fostering innovation‑driven approaches, and supporting ASEAN’s efforts to enhance disaster and climate resilience across the region.
