Tourism department hosts 63rd Asean National Tourism Organizations Meeting

Executive tourism officials from Asean member states, dialogue partners, and international organizations convened in Cebu City on Monday, January 26, as the Department of Tourism hosted the 63rd Asean National Tourism Organizations Meeting to assess programs and set directions for regional tourism cooperation. Tourism Undersecretary Verna Emeralda Buensuceso emphasized the Philippines’ leadership as Asean Chair for 2026 and described tourism as a key driver of inclusive growth. She pointed to Cebu’s historic role in Asean tourism collaboration, welcomed Timor-Leste as the newest Asean member, and urged closer alignment in policies, innovation, and sustainability. Buensuceso said the discussions and decisions made during the meeting will have a direct impact on visitor experience, destination competitiveness, business resilience, and community livelihoods across Southeast Asia.
