At the invitation of H.E. Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Chair of the ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting (AEM) 2025 and Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia, Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, will lead the ASEAN Secretariat’s delegation to participate in the 57th AEM and Related Meetings to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 23-26 September 2025.
The series of meetings also include the AEM joint meetings with the 39th ASEAN Free Trade Area Council and 28th ASEAN Investment Area Council, as well as the AEM Consultations with Dialogue Partners, the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and other Business Councils, and with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
These Meetings provide opportunities for Ministers to discuss global and regional economic issues, take stock of the regional economic achievements and explore ways to expand economic cooperation that would contribute to ASEAN’s regional economic integration journey. The Ministers will review the progress of the Priority Economic Deliverables (PEDs) under the purview of AEM, ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint 2025 implementation, preparatory work of the AEC Strategic Plan 2026-2030, and exchange views on specific issues such as recommendations of the ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force (AGTF) and High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Economic Integration (HLTF-EI), and external economic relations.
Dr. Kao is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with Ministers from ASEAN Member States and external partners of ASEAN on the sidelines of the series of meetings.
