JAKARTA, 15 October 2025 – The ASEAN Secretariat announces the release of The ASEAN Magazine Issue No. 46, “20 Years of AADMER – ASEAN’s Vision for Global Leadership in Disaster Resilience.”
This special issue marks two decades since the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) came into force in 2005. The AADMER is a binding agreement that has strengthened regional cooperation among ASEAN Members in disaster management.
To address the increasing complexity and severity of regional disasters, AADMER facilitates cooperation among Member States. The issue looks back on 20 years of progress across the priority areas of the AADMER Work Programme: prevention and mitigation; preparedness, response, and recovery; and global leadership in disaster management. It showcases the lived experiences and exemplary practices from ASEAN Member States in different aspects of disaster management.
In the issue, Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, outlines key areas of cooperation to enhance the region’s disaster resilience in line with the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. The ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM) Chair Kim Virak delivers a critical message: when disaster strikes, ASEAN Member States stand ready to support one another to save lives and livelihoods.
Readers will also find stories on community-based preparedness, regional relief efforts, and lessons from ASEAN countries responding to recent floods, earthquakes, and other disasters.
