JAKARTA, 22 January 2026 – Ambassador Khalid Jassim Alyassin today presented his Letter of Credence to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat, officially assuming his role as the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to ASEAN.

SG Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Alyassin on his assumption of office and expressed his readiness to work closely with Ambassador Alyassin to further strengthen ASEAN-Kuwait relations, including within the framework of ASEAN’s cooperation with the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC). He also commended Kuwait for its effective leadership during its GCC Presidency in 2025, as demonstrated by its successful co-chairing, together with Malaysia, of the Second ASEAN-GCC Summit and the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, both held on 27 May 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Ambassador Alyassin reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening its engagement with ASEAN and expressed his readiness to work closely with the ASEAN Secretariat in advancing cooperation with ASEAN and its Member States across a wide range of sectors under all three ASEAN Community pillars.

The State of Kuwait acceded to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) in 2023 and accredited its first Ambassador to ASEAN in 2017. Ambassador Alyassin succeeds Ambassador Abdulwahab Abdullah Al Sager, who completed his tenure in June 2022. The ASEAN Committee in Kuwait City, established in 2019, continues to serve as a platform for promoting ASEAN’s relations and cooperation with Kuwait in the host country.
