JAKARTA, 10 March 2026 – The newly-appointed Ambassador Clifford Borg-Marks presented his Letter of Credence to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat today, marking the assumption of his post as the first Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to ASEAN.
Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Borg-Marks on his new role and reaffirmed the ASEAN Secretariat’s readiness to work closely with him and the Government of Malta to explore opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including in trade, investment, digital economy, connectivity, as well as people-to-people and business-to-business ties.
Ambassador Borg-Marks underlined that his appointment as Malta’s first Ambassador to ASEAN is indicative of Malta’s keen interest in engaging ASEAN on multiple levels, including within the broader context of the ASEAN-European Union relations, and its commitment to enhancing its political, economic and socio-cultural ties with ASEAN and its Member States.
With the assumption of office by Ambassador Borg-Marks, a total of 97 non-ASEAN countries have now accredited their Ambassadors to ASEAN.
