SEPANG, 1 October 2026 – Officers representing the national legal metrology authorities of all 11 ASEAN Member States participated in a regional training on the Verification of Automatic Catchweighing Instruments (Catchweighers), held from 28 September to 1 October 2026 in Sepang, Selangor, Malaysia.
The four-day training aimed to strengthen the capacity of ASEAN verification officers to verify catchweighers in accordance with international standards, including recommendations of the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) and ASEAN regional guidelines. The programme combined theoretical sessions with hands-on practical exercises.
During the sessions, participants applied verification procedures and test methods and were introduced to the test procedures set out in the ASEAN Guidelines for Verification of Automatic Catchweighing Instruments.
The guidelines promote greater consistency in verification practices, facilitate compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, and strengthen confidence in measurement accuracy and reliability. Building trust in measurement capabilities helps foster fair trade and supports greater market access across the region.
As part of the training, participants took part in a practical session hosted by a manufacturer of measurement and precision instruments. The session provided participants with practical exposure to automatic catchweighing systems and their industrial applications, including demonstrations of catchweighing operations and verification testing.
The training was conducted under the ASEAN–PTB Germany Project “Strengthening the Quality Infrastructure in ASEAN”, as part of the Workplan between PTB Germany and the ACCSQ Working Group on Legal Metrology. It was jointly organised by PTB Germany, the National Metrology Institute of Malaysia, and the Directorate of Metrology of Indonesia.
