JAKARTA, 7 August 2025 – ASEAN and Peru reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation at the Second ASEAN-Peru Development Partnership Committee (AP-DPC) Meeting, held today at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.
The two sides exchanged updates on developments in ASEAN, including Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship priorities under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability”; ASEAN’s efforts in promoting sustainable development; advancements in the ASEAN Smart Cities Network; as well as progress in the implementation of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Work Plan IV, among others. The Meeting took note of recent developments in Peru, including its current political and economic outlook as well as Peru’s views on global issues. Peru highlighted the importance of multilateral diplomacy and expressed strong support for the implementation of the four priority areas of ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
The Meeting reviewed the progress made in the implementation of the ASEAN-Peru Development Partnership Practical Cooperation Areas (2025-2029), which was adopted in January this year.
The Meeting agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation through initiating and conducting activities in areas of mutual interest, including renewable energy; maritime cooperation; Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs); private sector engagement, people-to-people exchanges through the provision of scholarships and student exchange opportunities; digital economy and digital transformation; sustainable agriculture and fisheries; education and youth; climate change; and the four priorities under the AOIP.
The Meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, H.E. San Lwin, and Ambassador of Peru to ASEAN, H.E. Luis Tsuboyama, and attended by Members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) and representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat, and their respective delegations. Timor-Leste attended as Observer.
