JAKARTA, 14 September 2026 – Ambassador of the State of Qatar to ASEAN, Dr. Sultan bin Mubarak Saad Al-Dosari, presented his Letter of Credence to Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat today.
Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Al-Dosari on his appointment and looked forward to working closely with him to further advance ASEAN-Qatar relations, particularly following the conferment of ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner (SDP) status on Qatar at the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on 21 July 2026, in Manila, the Philippines. He encouraged Qatar to work closely with ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat to substantiate the newly established SDP. He further highlighted potential areas of cooperation between ASEAN and Qatar, including education and human resource development, public health, economic empowerment, climate change and environmental cooperation, disaster resilience, and capacity building.
Ambassador Al-Dosari expressed Qatar’s commitment to enhancing its engagement with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States and to further strengthening cooperation under the newly established SDP.
Both sides also looked forward to developing the ASEAN-Qatar Practical Cooperation Areas (2027-2031), which will serve as practical roadmap for implementing cooperation under ASEAN-Qatar SDP and further substantiate the partnership over the next five years.
Qatar acceded to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia in 2022 and has accredited its Ambassador to ASEAN since 2017. Ambassador Al-Dosari succeeds Ambassador Fawziya Bint Edrees Salman Al-Sulaiti, who completed her tenure on 17 May 2024. Ambassador Al-Dosari is the third Ambassador of Qatar to ASEAN.
