— Recently, in a move to further promote the inheritance and popularization of intangible cultural heritage, foster cultural confidence among young people, and enrich campus cultural life, Xuecheng District meticulously launched a themed event entitled “Intangible Cultural Heritage Enters Campus, New Year Flavor Nourishes Young Hearts.” The event specially invited more than ten Chinese and international teachers and students from the School of International Exchange at Zaozhuang University. Together with them, Ma Shichang, the representative inheritor of the municipal-level intangible cultural heritage project “Ma’s Wood-Fired Pottery,” and Ma Ming, the founder of Chinese Colored Ink Ancient Seal Characters, walked into Linshan Primary School in Xuecheng District. Together, they presented an immersive intangible cultural heritage feast for teachers, students, and international friends, allowing traditional craftsmanship to shine with the festive atmosphere of the New Year while infusing the campus with a rich cultural spirit and warmth.

At the event venue, the inheritors provided live demonstrations and hands-on guidance. They elaborated in detail on the firing techniques, creative concepts, and cultural connotations of wood-fired pottery, as well as the unique artistic forms and charm of colored ink ancient seal characters. The students listened attentively and actively participated in hands-on practice. Through personal experience, they felt the intricacy of intangible cultural heritage skills and gained a deeper understanding of the artisans’ dedication and craftsmanship. International students also joined with great enthusiasm. Through creation and interaction, they experienced firsthand the profound depth and unique appeal of China’s outstanding traditional culture, further deepening their understanding and appreciation of Chinese cultural heritage.
The event also served as a vibrant platform for cross-cultural dialogue. As international students worked alongside their Chinese peers and inheritors, they exchanged ideas about artistic expression, cultural symbolism, and the importance of preserving traditional crafts in a modernizing world. These moments of shared creativity transcended language barriers and highlighted the universal value of cultural heritage. For many of the international participants, it was their first encounter with such traditional art forms, and the experience left a lasting impression of the richness and diversity of Chinese culture.
By taking the New Year celebration as an opportunity, this activity deeply integrated the inheritance and education of intangible cultural heritage into campus cultural development. It not only enriched the spiritual and cultural life of teachers and students, guided young people to connect with traditions and develop a love for intangible cultural heritage, and continuously enhanced cultural identity and pride, but also promoted the deep-rooted inheritance of China’s excellent traditional culture within the school environment. At the same time, the activity built an international cultural exchange platform with intangible cultural heritage as a bridge, fostering mutual learning and integration between Chinese and foreign cultures. It effectively enhanced the international communication capacity and cultural influence of Xuecheng District, allowing intangible cultural heritage to shine even more brilliantly in the new era.
Such initiatives reflect Xuecheng District’s ongoing commitment to preserving and revitalizing traditional culture while embracing global perspectives. By opening the doors of cultural heritage to both local and international youth, the district is not only safeguarding its rich traditions but also nurturing a new generation of cultural ambassadors who will carry these stories forward. As the inheritors shared their lifelong dedication to their crafts, the students—both Chinese and international—gained not only technical knowledge but also a profound appreciation for the spirit of perseverance and innovation that sustains intangible cultural heritage across generations.
This event stands as a meaningful example of how grassroots cultural activities can serve as powerful vehicles for cultural confidence, international friendship, and the enduring vitality of traditional arts in contemporary society.(Zhuangqi,Chenhua)
