LAPU-LAPU CITY — A Cebu-based labor alliance and an environmental group have strongly condemned the arrest of Greenpeace Southeast Asia activists, as authorities tightly enforced security measures during the 48th Asean Summit in Cebu.
Police took several Greenpeace Southeast Asia activists to Lapu-Lapu City Police Station 2 in Barangay Mactan after they staged a protest on Friday during the summit opening.
Greenpeace said its activists peacefully staged the demonstration to urge Asean leaders to reduce plastic production, phase out single-use plastics, and hold corporations accountable for environmental damage across Southeast Asia.
